For the sixth time HolidayCheck, the largest independent travel review portal in the German-speaking world, has given out the HolidayCheck Awards, which it granted to two RIU hotels: the Riu Palace Madeira and the ClubHotel Riu Tequila (Mexico). For the first time, HolidayCheck has also handed out the HolidayCheck Tophotel award to travellers' favourite hotels, an honour that 9 hotels in the chain received.

The Riu Palace Madeira Hotel was chosen as one of the world's top ten hotels in the wellness category, as well as the top-rated hotel by travellers in Portugal. In turn, the ClubHotel Riu Tequila was also considered one of the top 10 hotels worldwide in the "popular with guests under 30" category in Mexico.(Mexico)

Nine RIU hotels worldwide received the 2011 HolidayCheck Tophotel award for their outstanding performance and customer satisfaction. This is truly an honour for these hotels, since recognition is based exclusively on traveller ratings. The following have been named the most popular hotels in their regions:

Riu Palace Algarve (Algarve, Portugal)

Riu Garoe (Tenerife, Spain)

Riu Palace Jandia (Fuerteventura, Spain)

Riu Palace Maspalomas (Gran Canaria, Spain)

Riu Palmeras (Gran Canaria, Spain)

Riu Palace Tenerife (Tenerife, Spain)

Riu Ferrara (Malaga, Spain)

Riu Evrika (Sunny Beach, Bulgaria)

Riu Helios Bay (Obzor, Bulgaria)

The HolidayCheck Award is considered a unique, outstanding award given in each case solely to the most popular hotel in each category. To be chosen, hotels must meet certain minimum requirements, such as a 90% recommendation rate. Only 99 hotels in the world receive these awards. Equally outstanding is the HolidayCheck Tophotel award, which is given to only 332 hotels worldwide. Both awards reflect guest reviews, customer satisfaction and the commitment of hoteliers and employees.
